In a very humid weather, Platinum Stars dominated the home side at the Tuks Stadium on Wednesday evening. Stars were already on fire as the game commenced and Mabena receives a great cross from Nyanda but heads it too little to go inside the posts in the 5th minute. Nyanda once again cuts through to the box and crosses a beauty but Tuks turns it into a corner
The determined Dikwena pushed hard into AmaTuks’ half but without any luck of goals. Mabena intercepted a ball that cost him a fall just outside the goal circle 15 minutes into the game and had to be attended to by the medicals. A free kick from Mere goes wider. Madubanya together with Tshabalala portrayed skill and passion in their game, with Platinum Stars creating spaces as they left the confused Tuks with less to wander about.
Massa did not have any chance against Masenamela and Tshikovhi who both really made a close play, allowing him no ball from his mates. A corner kick from Nyanda met with Tshikovhi’s head but took it over the cross bar to become a goal kick. In the 38th minute, Kekana received a yellow card for fouling Tshabalala. Tshikovhi remained strong at the back, clearing dangerous balls away from the posts.
As the clock hit 40 minutes into the first half, AmaTuks were already under pressure and were substituting Mokamba by Mosadi. The referee’s optional time added was a minute into the first half but went to waste and both teams went to rest.
Second half had fewer actions as both teams were struggling to make it to their opponent’s side but at the end of the day it was about who wanted it more and it was clear that Stars needed it more than Amatuks. Mathe received a yellow card for fouling Mosadi and Mabena rested as Kaunda assisted.
Nyondo had a severe head injury that forced him to get taken to the hospital and Chenene substituted him. Nyanda was taken out and Makudubela came in to dominate, as always. As Tshabalala cut through AmaTuks’ defence, he was fouled and a beautiful free kick met with Rodgers’ head and a goal was recorded.
8 minutes were added onto the second half to cover up for lost time during Nyondo’s injury and it is at this time when Makudubela became popular as he really displayed a major play that contributed into Stars’ win. Masenamela’s experience added with Mdubanya’s speed allowed Dikwena’s balls to be cleared away to the front. At the end of the day, Dikwena bagges 3 points away at AmaTuks and moved up to the 12th spot on the log table.
The next game will be at royal bafokeng Sports Palace, with Maritzburg United.
