Platinum Stars FC played a friendly game with Moroka Swallows in Bedford View under wet conditions at the Italian Sports Club on Thursday morning. Platinum Stars had the first chance after a good move by Mabena putting Nyanda through with a keeper only to beat but he squandered the opportunity, 11th minute Platinum Stars looked comfortable on the ball, making positive moves forward and creating chances in front of the Swallows goals.
A Swallows defender injured himself after mistiming his tackle in the 20th minute of the game and a forced substitute was made. Siyabonga Nomvethe was making a nuisance of himself giving the Stars defense a hard time. Marothi Diale was fouled on the edge of the box and a free kick was awarded to Stars which Mabena took brilliantly to score the first goal of the match giving Stars a slender lead.
Swallows players were getting agitated and committing fouls to stop the Stars players. The referee awarded Swallows a dodgy penalty and Nomvethe stepped up but Mlambo the Stars keeper came out on top and saved the spot kick, that summed up the so not impressive half for Swallows.
Platinum Stars began the second half of the game with a new team, while Swallows made a few changes to their side. The game looked balanced with both teams giving away position of the ball. Swallows made changes in the 60th minute. Kaunda missed a golden opportunity to put Stars 2 ahead after Zongo’s shot was carried away by the Swallows keeper and the ball fell to Kaunda. Stars continued pilling the pressure on the Swallows defense and a great cross from Mabule found Kaunda to head home and give Stars a deserving 2 goal pad.
Kaunda missed another golden opportunity to increase Stars lead after a great pass from Segolela to split the defense and put Kaunda one on one with the keeper. Another great move from Stars materialized when Mabule combined with Zongo to create a good opportunity for Maboya and he took it well by placing his shot at the bottom corner to increase Stars’ lead.
Stars looked organized at the back, forcing Swallows to take shots from a long distance. Second half was dominated by Stars and they took their 3-0 lead to the final whistle.
