Mere calls for an end to poor performances
Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere has lamented Dikwena’s lackluster performances following yet another loss at home on Saturday afternoon.

Mere and his teammates succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Polokwane City at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace. The goals by Polokwane City were due to poor defending by the home side. Cavin Johnson’s men have conceded 10 goals in their last four matches. Mere tells Platinumstars.com that Dikwena can’t continue to be at fault at in defence.

“It’s very disappointing but I can’t question the effort from the boys. Once again we let ourselves down. We keep on committing silly mistakes at the back. This is top flight. This is a top league in South Africa so you do those kind of mistakes you are going to get punished. We are going to have to go back and rectify our mistakes and look forward to the next game,” said a dejected Mere.

Though Dikwena trailed Polokwane by 3-0 at some point, Johnson’s men fought back. Striker Benson Shilongo scored a brace to minimize the deficit. Mere has confidence in the side that Johnson has assembled.

“We have got quality in the side. I don’t know what happened at the back. I know we should defend as a team but we should have pride in ourselves. If you get a clean sheet, you will feel good about it. When last did we have a clean sheet? It’s been a while. If we can work as team in terms of defending I think we have the potential of scoring going forward. We have to go back and rectify our mistakes. There’s no time to go home and rest. We have to work harder. We are not in a position to rest,” said Mere.

The loss to Polokwane meant home wins remain elusive for Dikwena, who have not had great run at home following one win and six losses at home.
“We have made this a slaughter house in the previous seasons but now it’s like everybody comes here and we are like Father Christmas giving them points. We should put an end to that. It’s difficult already playing away. We need to take opportunity when we are playing at home,” said Stars skipper.

Dikwena’s next game is against Cape Town City on December 13 at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.
