Platinum Stars attacker Kobamelo Kodisang will be part of South Africa’s U20 team that begins their Cosafa U-20 championship title defence this Wednesday night.
Kodisang and his teammates will square off against neighbors Lesotho in what is expected to be an interesting duel at the Moruleng Stadium in Rustenburg at 7.30pm. The venue will be a familiar territory for the 17-year-old attacker.
Kodisang’s inclusion in Thabo Senong’s side is set to inspire a number of youngsters in the team’s academy. Kodisang has been a part of the national team for a while now. He has also represented the country at the Fifa Uder-17 World Cup in Chile last year.
Stars academy manager Kagiso Marumo says Kodisang’s involvement in the national team is a vote of confidence for the club’s development structures.
“This shows that our academy is in the right track. Kodisang is one of the first intake during the inception of Platinum Stars. Together with the like of Gift Links, they were confined into a well-structured development programme here at our academy. What it means to us as Platinum Stars Academy is that we are doing a good job in ensuring that we develop good players not only for our first team but also for the national teams,” said Marumo.
Marumo says the academy will continue to up its game in order to supply junior national teams with players.
“Our aim is to turn Platinum Stars Academy into a hub where National team coaches would think first about Platinum Academy when it’s time to select players for different national teams. To have at least 2 to 3 players from our Academy playing in different national team levels is part of our objectives,” said Marumo.
