Platinum Stars are bracing themselves for a torrid time in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Dikwena were drawn against Ivory Coast outfit AS Tanda during the draw conducted in Cairo on Tuesday. Stars general manager Senzo Mazingiza is anticipating tough times as Dikwena continue to surge forward in the continental tournament.
“The more you progress in this competition, the more difficult and challenging it becomes. We are playing against the loser from CAF Champions League so it can’t be easy. It was expected that we will get stiffer opposition and stiffer conditions in terms of travelling but we are ready for it. We knew what we got ourselves into. It’s a good opportunity for the players and the team. I am sure the coach will cherish this opportunity and make sure the team does well in the competition,” Mazingiza tells Platinumstars.com.
Dikwena have done well so far in the Confed Cup with wins over Uniao do Songo and Vipers SC from Mozambique and Uganda respectively. Mazingiza is confident of Cavin Johnson’s men doing well. Dikwena have been in great form both on the domestic and continental front recently.
“Things are falling into place. It’s something that has been planned. It’s great that results are going our way and that can only boost the confidence of our players. When the confidence is high players become their best. It’s not something that happened by luck. It has been planned throughout the season. We are grateful that we are at this stage,” said Mazingiza.
Mazingiza has also heaped praise on Johnson for striking the right balance in the team and exposing youngsters to continental football.
“Credit must go to the coach and his entourage for making sure that we are in the position that we are in. It’s a good balance that the coach has got in the team. We have a number of youngsters that the coach is using. It augurs well for us that youngsters are gaining invaluable experience not only in the PSL but also in CAF. The coach should be commended for blooding in the youngsters into the team,” said Mazingiza.
Date and venue for Dikwena’s CAF Confed Cup clash against AS Tanda are yet to be confirmed.
