Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson has highlighted the influence of goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela, who has been one of the standout performers for Dikwena recently.
Mzimela, who joined Dikwena in 2015, has played a pivotal role in Dikwena’s resurgence on both the domestic and continental front. Though his primary role is to save goals, Mzimela has scored goals in all the competitions that Dikwena are taking part in. So far this season he has scored in the Absa Premiership, the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup. All his goals came from the penalty spot.
Stars coach Cavin Johnson tells Platinumstars.com that he is happy with the contribution of his number one goalkeeper.
“When the chips are down Mzimela is able to step up and take responsibility. He is solid. The back four that he is playing with is not conceding many goals. He conceded a few goals in the last eight games that he has played. He is doing very well. He has kept clean sheets. He gives the team more. He gives them willingness to go forward. He has become our number one penalty taker. He scored the goals in the PSL, Nedbank and CAF. I am happy for him,” said Johnson.
Johnson will be hoping Mzimela can be at his best when Dikwena take on Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium this coming Saturday. Mzimela and company will be high on confidence following recent form. Dikwena have been scoring goals and Johnson is encouraged.
“Sometimes when the ball falls for you properly, you are able to score goals. Even last year we were playing well but the ball didn’t fall for us. It didn’t go in the back of the net. It’s falling for us now and we are putting it in the back of the net. We just hope that we continue with the same form,” said Johnson.
Kickoff is 6pm
