Platinum Stars teenage sensation Gift Links says Dikwena will be in mean mood when they take on AS Tanda in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup play-offs at Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan this coming Sunday.
“We are not in Ivory Coast for a holiday. We have to play and advance so that we go to the next level. We don’t know the team that well but from what I heard is that we have to expect people that are physically strong and tall,” Links tells Platinumstars.com.
Links, the 19-year-old from Phokeng in North West, is one of the youngsters that were promoted by Cavin Johnson at the beginning of the season. Links made his debut for the senior team in the CAF Confederation Cup against Mozambican side Uniao Do Songo. Links is eager to make the most of his opportunity.
“This is a great privilege for me because I played in CAF as a youngster. It’s not a lot of players that get to play in CAF at an early age. I am happy because CAF is a big competition. I would like to be in the group stages of Confed Cup. Now we have to concentrate on the Tanda game. I want to see us getting into the semifinals in CAF Confed Cup,” said Links, who is part of Cavin Johnson’s squad to do duty in Abidjan.
The leftfooted midfielder is keen to give his best whenever he gets a chance. Links has aspirations of representing South Africa at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Korea Republic next month.
“I want to push so that I can go to the U20 World Cup. I am hoping coach Cavin Johnson will give me a chance in the PSL so that the national under20 coach can see me. When I get to the world Cup, I want to represent the country and the team. I want to have a World Cup experience,” said Links.
Links will do well to be effective in attack when Dikwena clash with AS Tanda tomorrow afternoon.
Kickoff is at 5pm.
