Explosive contest on the cards as Dikwena battle Amakhosi
An explosive affair is expected when Platinum Stars clash with Kaizer Chiefs in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace tonight.

Clashes between Dikwena and Amakhosi have always been highly contested. Interestingly the line of dominance is very thin. None of the sides can claim to have dominance over the other. There have been seasons where one team will have complete dominance over another only for the other team to bounce back and dominate the season after. Whenever they meet it can go either way. So far, since 2004, Dikwena and Amakhosi have clashed 16 times. The records show that the two sides have equal share of glory in the matches. In the 16 times that they have met each side managed five wins, six draws and five losses.

Last season Dikwena and Amakhosi met three times. Cavin Johnson’s men did a double over Steve Komphela’s charges in the Absa Premiership. Dikwena won 2-1 away in Cape Town in the first leg with Eleazar Rodgers’ brace. In the second round it was Ndumiso Mabena’s brace that led Dikwena to a 2-0 victory in front of home fans.

However Chiefs managed to beat Dikwena 3-0 in the Telkom Knockout last season. Earlier this season Dikwena and Chiefs played to 1-1 draw at FNB Stadium. In their last meeting this season, the two sides want to end on a high. Chiefs are on position five with 47 points while Dikwena are on position 11 with 31 points. There’s a slight chance that Dikwena might make the top eight.

Dikwena captain Vuyo Mere expressed his top eight aspirations to ahead of tonight’s clash.

“The game is very important to us as we want to finish in the top eight. We are playing a good side with a good coach, so it\'s going to be a tough match. We are prepared as a team and looking forward to the match. We are only focused on ourselves because we have our own objectives, there is nothing much we can do or say about Chiefs, all we know is that the game is very crucial to us and our top eight dreams,” said Mere.

Kickoff is at 7.30pm.
