I want to play for five more years – Mathe
Platinum Stars veteran midfielder Solomon Mathe has no intentions of hanging his boots anytime soon.

Mathe, who turned 37 on the night Dikwena subjected Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-0 defeat, feels he can still perform at high level despite being advanced in age.
“I feel like I can carry on for the next five years. I am fresh. With the technical team that we have, they allow senior players to have more rest and our training programme is good. Even the way they treat seniors, I think I can play three to five more years,” Mathe tells Platinumstars.com.

Mathe made his PSL debut 12 years ago. The central midfielder has been babysitting Dikwena midfielder with aplomb this season. With superior ball skills, he comes out top in control and passing. He is strong and does well to fight for possession in the middle of the park. Mathe was in his element when Dikwena beat Amakhosi at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Wednesday night.

Mathe headed home the first goal before Enocent Mkhabela added the second goal. It was a special night for Mathe as he celebrated his 37th birthday on the night. For his efforts Mathe was awarded Man of the Match accolade. Something peculiar happened before the match.

“Before the game, someone said let’s sing for Solly but the coach said no. The coach said Solly is going to score for us and them we will sing for him. And it happened that way. I was so happy,” said Mathe.

“I am happy that we won against Chiefs. We have been doing well lately. Credit should go to the guys for the efforts they put in. The technical team also planned well. We knew that if we let them have possession, they would punish us. So we did well. We created more chances than them.”

The next assignment for Mathe and his teammates is away in the CAF Confederation Cup where they will battle it out against Mbabane Swallows in Swaziland on Tuesday afternoon.
