We need to redeem ourselves in CAF - Mere
Redemption is what Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere and his teammates will have on their minds when they jet out to Tunisia tonight.

Dikwena will clash with Tunisian Giants CS Sfaxien at Stade Taieb Mhiri in Tunis this coming Sunday night. Mere, whose side is at the bottom on CAF Confederation Cup Group B, says Cavin Johnson’s men have to redeem themselves especially after their last CAF clash where they lost 4-2 to Swazi side Mbabane Swallows.

When Dikwena will be stepping on to the pitch in Sfax, it won’t be the first time for Mere. The Dikwena skipper was part of a Mamelodi Sundowns side that faced Sfaxien at the same venue 10 years ago.

“I have played against them while I was still at Sundowns. That was years ago so they may have changed drastically. It’s not about them, it’s about us. Obviously we were not happy with our results against Mbabane Swallows. It was very disappointing so we can’t go on like that. It’s not going to be easy but we are going to go out there to redeem ourselves again. We can’t be a team that can lose 4-0 against other teams. That’s not us. We expect a tough game and hopefully we come back with positive results,” said Mere.

It has been a season of mixed fortunes for Dikwena. Their domestic showings were not that impressive as their continental displays. Dikwena finished outside the top eight in the league.

“It was one of the most difficult seasons but we made it hard for ourselves. If you can check, the first six matches we didn’t do well. We didn’t collect much needed points for us to be comfortable. That’s why we had to fight for our lives before the end of the season. We finished well though we are not in the top eight. We had 30 games to get enough points to make the top eight but we couldn’t do it so we have no one but ourselves to blame,” said Mere.
