Dikwena to take football development to another level
In a quest to advance football development, Platinum Stars will embark on various programmes to give aspiring footballers a chance.

Stars Academy manager Kagiso Marumo says the club will host Dikwena Winter Football Camp from 11-15 July 2017 at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Campus. Before that the club will also conduct a series of trials in search of talent to reinforce the club’s academy. Marumo says the Dikwena Winter Football Camp, to take place over five days, is aimed at giving aspiring players a taste of what goes on in the life of professional footballers. The winter camp is for boys between 11-13 years. The club has space only for 30 boys at a cost of R2 500.

“The aim Winter Camp is to give aspiring players a feel on how to be trained by professional coaches and experts in the field of football. They will train like professionals. We will also do a number of presentations on things such as the laws of the game, video analysis, periodization and other aspects of football. We will have former professional players to take them through training sessions. We also have current members of technical teams to shed some knowledge on various things in football. It’s not confined to South Africans only. Parents from Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique and other neighbouring countries are welcome to bring their children,” Marumo tells

Marumo revealed that the club is looking for players to add to the club’s various development teams. Dikwena will host trials from U17 to U21. Players must be born on or after January 2000 to January 1996. Their trials will be held at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on June 17, 2017 starting at 8am. Dikwena will also host open trials for boys – U11, U13, U15 and U16. Players must be born on or after January 2007 to January 2001. Their trials will be held at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on 02 and 03 July 2017 starting at 8am.

“We are strengthening our teams so that we are competitive within the various leagues we play in. Our philosophy will guide us in looking for players. Obviously players have to be good on the ball, passing, movements and shooting. Coaches will take them through those things,” said Marumo.

The Dikwena Winter Football Camp is at a cost of R2500 while trials are free of charge. For more information on Winter Camp, contact Kagiso Marumo on 071 592 6164. For trials contact Eric Petlele on 082 689 8217 or Andrew Mokgatle on 072 692 0333.
