Our defence has to improve - Mlilo
Platinum Stars defender Sphamandla Mlilo believes a strong defence can change the fortunes of team.
Mlilo, who was in his first season in the last campaign, was a regular feature in Dikwena’s defence. Dikwena conceded 32 goals in the league, 8 in the domestic cups, and 14 in the CAF Confederation Cup. Mlilo tells that there’s a need to improve.

“Our squad is good but we have to work on our mistakes. We let the team down with set pieces because we conceded more goals from set pieces. Even in the first round we conceded 11 goals from set pieces. We can do better if we improve. Defenders have to improve. We must start having own meetings. We also have to harsh because I think we are too easy on one another. We are not competing enough in set pieces,” said Mlilo.

The 21-year-old also wants to improve on his own game.
“I had a good season but my only disappointment is that I get a lot of suspension. I got three red cards this season. I have to work hard at training so that I can be a better player next season. I want to improve on aerial balls. I also have to do well in defending set pieces because we are struggling. I must be strong when it comes to heading because we are struggling. Sometimes our organization is poor at the back,” said Mlilo.

Mlilo wants to see Dikwena walk away with a trophy next season.
“We didn’t do well last season because we were supposed to be in the top five. We must work hard so we can do even better next season. I would like to see the team win trophies. For other people to take us serious we need to win. When you are not winning trophies people don’t talk about you. We have to win something,” he said.

Mlilo and his teammates are flying out to Algeria this afternoon. Dikwena will clash with MC Alger in CAF Confederation Cup Group B fixture this coming Friday night.

“It’s always been my dream to play on the African continent. I am coming up against the big guys. Players from other African countries are strong so that is preparing me to be able to deal with PSL players,” said Mlilo.

Kickoff is at 10pm.
