Dikwena first lady declares: We must win two trophies next season
Platinum Stars administrator Malebo Mogomotsi wants Dikwena to repeat their exploits of the 2013/14 season.
It was a season where Dikwena won the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout. Mogomotsi wants Dikwena to surprise all and sundry one more time by winning double trophies in the upcoming season.
“That was the best season ever when we won the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout. Nobody thought Dikwena would do what we did. I am hoping we can do it again. I would love to experience the feeling again,” Mogomotsi tells Platinumstars.com.
“Platinum Stars is one of the teams that get undermined so people think trophies such as MTN8, Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout belong to so called big teams so for a team like Dikwena, owned by community, to win was very special. It was great not only for me but the Bafokeng community at large.”
Mogomotsi is one of the few women working in a sport known as a man’s. In her administrative work she encounters challenges whenever she goes about her trade. Internally she commands the respect of her colleagues and players while on the outside there’s a different perception.
“Most people get surprised and say a woman at Platinum Stars, how do you do it? How do you handle players because most of them are troublesome? But you know when you do something you are passionate about things like those don’t distract. Players respect me. Though I am an easy person, when I do my job I mean business. What I like about our players is that they don’t take advantage that I am a woman. They have respect,” said Mogomotsi.
“Since I am a woman, men from other teams like to take chances. Others want to discourage me and say football is not for me. They say it’s a man’s game. They say I must work at a bank. They find it weird that I work in football.”
One of the things Mogomotsi likes about her club is that Dikwena focuses on youth development.
“We believe in development and we don’t sign so called big names. We sign relatively unknown players. We put unknown players on the map. People undermine our signings sometimes but after three or so matches they get proven wrong and they give us plaudits,” she says.

One-Twos with Malebo Mogomotsi:

Favourite player: You want me to fight with my players now. They are all my favourites.
Favourite overseas player: Cristiano Ronaldo
Player I would like to sign: Thuso Phala (SuperSport United)
Player I fear the most: Thuso Phala, that’s why I wouldn’t mind him rejoining us.
