Platinum Stars veteran striker Henrico Botes reckons being more creative could strengthen Dikwena’s campaign.

It has not been a smooth sailing for Cavin Johnson’s men but Botes feels things could be better if he and his teammates can increase their efforts on creativity. Dikwena have managed to score four and concede five in six matches. This has led to one win, three draws and two losses.

“I wouldn’t say we are pressing panic buttons. We are not creating enough. I think it’s a question of everyone coming to the party especially jelling as a team. It’s a collective effort that all of us need to work on. Our coach has been giving us exercises. We have been doing different systems to try and rectify the problem,” said Botes.

“We do have creative players. All of our games, the mistakes we make are elementary in terms of conceding goals. It’s something that has hampered our progress also. We have been battling in all areas. Our defending wasn’t good. We have been conceding goals. Another thing is that we haven’t scored a lot. We, myself included, are not creating enough chances to be able to score. If you create ten chances, you miss five or so and maybe score two. That’s something that we have been working on in training.”

The former Namibian international will lead Dikwena’s attack when they take on Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday night. Botes is hoping that Dikwena make the grade against Arrows, who second on the Absa Premiership table.

“I just pray to God that everything can work out and we come back from Durban with three points. We are going down there to fight. Every game we have been fighting for maximum points. We need to take into consideration that Arrows are top of the log. They have been doing well. It’s not easy playing in Durban. They are home. We have a plan for them. Hopefully on the day it comes together. We are going for three points but any point we get at this stage of the season is important,” said Botes.
Kickoff is at 7.30.
