Burgeoning Platinum Stars defender Sphamandla Mlilo is fired up ahead of Dikwena’s clash against Baroka FC in the Telkom Knockout at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane this coming Sunday afternoon.
Mlilo, who was promoted to the first team at the beginning of the season, tells Platinumstars.com that he and his team mates will go all out against Baroka in order to revive the winning spirit in the team.
“We need to approach the game with the aim of winning because that will bring back our momentum. If we win, we will get our winning mentality back. A win will pick us up because the guys seem to be down. We need a win to boost our confidence for another PSL game. We are working to reach the final so that we can win the Telkom Knockout. We need the trophy more than any team,” said Mlilo.
Mlilo is hoping that Cavin Johnson’s men will get the goals this time around following a not so good showing in front of goals so far this season. Dikwena have managed just three goals in five PSL matches. Mlilo says the scoring problem should be addressed.
“We need to get together, talk and work out our finishing. If we fix finishing, we will get the points. When it comes to playing, we are doing well but we squander our chances. We need to work hard and think about the youngsters because they also need an opportunity to play in the PSL like us,” said Mlilo.
The lad from Pinetown in KwaZulu Natal has settled well at centreback, where he is cementing his place in the team. Mlilo has plans to continue working hard and maintaining his place in Dikwena defence.
“It’s good to be in the first team. I have been in the MDC. In MDC, there’s too much pressure but in PSL the pressure is only to get the points. In MDC, we were playing for promotion. I didn’t think I will start so many matches but the coach has given me a chance and the confidence that I can make it. I just want to push hard, listen and learn from senior guys. I think I can become a better player. I want to thank the coach for giving me a chance. He believes in youngsters and he gives them a chance,” said the 20-year-old.
Kickoff is at 3pm.
