Find out more about the men behind the success at Platinum Stars.

Head Coach – Cavin Johnson

Before accepting the head coaching role at Platinum Stars in 2012 Johnson mainly worked as youth and assistant coach for various clubs in South Africa among them assistant coach and later head of youth development at Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and most recently Platinum Stars. In his first season as head coach he led Stars to a 2nd place finish in the PSL and subsequently joined SuperSport United to replace the outgoing Gavin Hunt.

In 1994 Johnson discovered Steven Pienaar and later brought him to the School of Excellence where Johnson worked as youth coach at the time.[4] Both hail from Westbury in Johannesburg.

Johnson is now back at Platinum Stars with more experience.

Assistant Coach – Willem Jackson

Willem Jackson retired from professional football at the end of the 2009/10 season and has moved straight into a coaching role with Platinum Stars as assistant to Owen da Gama.

Jackson had an outstanding playing career as a defender, making 18 appearances for South Africa, including at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

Having begun his career with amateur side Rabbits FC, Jackson joined home-town club Bloemfontein Celtic, making his debut in the 1993 season in a 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates. And five years later he joined The Buccaneers ahead of the 1997/98 season, becoming a first-team regular and playing 46 matches in his first campaign.

It was soon after he joined Bucs that he made his debut for South Africa in a 2-1 defeat to France in November 1997. Aside from the 1998 World Cup, he also played at the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations, where Bafana Bafana finished runners-up to Egypt. His last appearance came against Mozambique in a Cosafa Cup match in 2001.

Jackson joined Platinum Stars after six seasons at Pirates ahead of the 2003/04 campaign and captained the side to the 2006 Telkom Knockout Cup trophy as they beat Ajax Cape Town 3-1 in the final.

After deciding to hang up his boots, he began a new chapter in his footballing career with a role as assistant coach after being elevated to the position in July 2010.
